Luckily, I don’t live near the flood plain, but, ever since the rains hit, my house has had some seepage issues on the north west corner and near the area under my front door in the basement, especially when it rains or when snow melts. I don’t think this was a problem before, but it’s hard to tell since I just moved in within the last year.
We do not have a sump pump, and the water coming it is not enough to create standing water, but it is enough to soak the carpet.
a. does the soaked carpet need to be thrown out, or can it be dried with fans and be OK?
b. what can be done to fix the problem, and
c. what could be causing it??

When my nephew was 14 years old he was charged with sexual abuse in the 2nd degree by two kids-one boy, one girl. Both were seven years old. He’s not sure what they told their mother. But he said that he didn’t do it. He refused to plead guilty and the case went to trial. After a 4 - 5 month trial, they found him guilty. He said that his court appointed lawyer didn’t say much during the trial. I think they only met a handful of times. And unfortunately, he really didn’t have family there to back him up. As a 14-year-old, he was dealing with this alone. Anyway, he completed the *** offender program from age 14 until 16. He was released at 16 and he was placed on the *** registry. At the age of 18, he’s finding getting a job almost impossible. As an adult, he is now understanding what the full ramifications are of the charges. He also can’t find any place to live because all of his family members have children or live near schools. Also, more recently, the two kids that were involved in the initial allegations recently recanted to one of their family members. They told his brother that they didn’t realize that my nephew would get in that much trouble. To make matters worse, he is currently in jail because of failure to register on the *** offender registry.
Okay…with all that said…and not knowing alot about my nephew. What are your thoughts on this? He says that he will be on the *** offender list for 50 years. Can they really do that in Cedar Rapids, IA?

I have come to the understanding that we will see more of these disasters all over the world. It occured to me that what I need to do is love and help my neighbor despite what differences we have. I am waking up to the realization that if we don’t help one another, we are doomed.

What will have to happen where you live in order for you to “wake up” to this reality? Please don’t bury your head in the sand…

In case this was unclear, I am not suggesting you all get saved. I am suggesting we all focus more on our commonalities than differences and support one another through the tough times ahead. What do you think?
